Barbara Jean "Bobbie" Carter

April 10, 1939 — January 31, 2022

Barbara (Bobbie) Jean Royals Carter of Rome, GA, slipped away from this life into the arms of Jesus on January 31, 2022. She passed peacefully surrounded by family members.

Barbara was born in Atlanta, GA, on April 10, 1939, to the late J.O. “Owen” Royals Sr. and late Ora Belle Davis Royals. She met her husband of almost 65 years, Daniel Lee Carter, as a child and they married in 1957. Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Ricky) Thompson of Subligna, GA, and Kristi (Ryan) Lorren of Dallas, GA, grandchildren Corey (Carrie) Thompson of Hiram, GA, Ben Thompson of Rydal, GA, Adam (Lindsey) Lorren of Temple, GA, and Joseph Lorren of Dallas, GA, and seven great grandchildren. A sister, Margaret Butler of Connecticut, and brother, John (Pearl) Royals Jr. of Hoschton, GA, and many extended family also survive. She was preceded in death by grandson Matthew Thompson.

Barbara was an excellent seamstress and truly enjoyed sewing and crafting. Not only did she make her own wedding dress, she also created wedding dresses for both her daughters. Never did her daughters receive a new doll for Christmas that did not include multiple outfits she had secretly made. Through the years, her grandsons received hand crafted gifts like furry bear sleeping bags, A-frame tents, Spiderman, Pokémon, and wrestling costumes. Many other family members and friends enjoyed the labors of her hands. She also enjoyed tending to her house plants that decorated her home.

For several years, Barbara was employed by the Rome Casket Company but her favorite vocation was homemaker. Her home was always open, her arms always welcoming. Her family has years of wonderful memories of special dinners and holiday gatherings. The grandsons remember a “Memaw” who never missed an opportunity to play games and spend quality time with them.

Although Barbara will surely be missed by her family and friends, she has now been made completely whole, both body and mind.

Barbara will be celebrated in an intimate family gathering on Wednesday, February 2, at the Salmon Funeral Home in Rome, GA. Adam Lorren will bring words of comfort. She will then be cremated, and her ashes shared by her husband and daughters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Amedisys Foundation of Cartersville GA, 102 East Main Street, Cartersville, 30120, in appreciation of their service.

The staff of Salmon Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Barbara (Bobbie) Jean Royals Carter.
