Betty Gene Barton

Mrs. Betty Gene Barton, age 76, of 59 Wade Street, Rome, passed away Monday morning, January 15th, 2007, at her residence after a brief illness.
Mrs. Betty Barton was born in Centre, Alabama, on October 12th, 1930, the daughter of the late Jessie L. and Sallie McCarley Hampton. She had spent the greater part of her life in Rome and Floyd County, was a homemaker and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Mrs. Barton was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Emory and Harvel Hampton, 1 sister, Pauline Hampton and her beloved eldest daughter, Cheryl Barton.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 55 years, Rufus E. Barton, to whom she was married on July 14th, 1951, a daughter and her husband, Teresa and David Stewart of Rome; a son, Danny Barton, 4 granddaughters, Cristal Bishop, Keisha Tanner and her husband, Eric, Jessica "Nikki" Barton, Tara Schubert and her husband, Scott, 2 grandsons, Daniel Barton and Tracy Stewart and his wife, Stephanie, 9 great-grandchildren, Jarred and Cory Thacker, Macy and Morgan Stewart, Josh and Austin Schubert, Keira Tanner, Willow Barton and Colt Shelton all of Rome; a sister, Mildred Kines of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barton will be held on Wednesday afternoon, January 17th, 2007, at 2 o'clock from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Max Carver officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. For those attending the funeral services for Mrs. Barton please meet at the graveside on Wednesday afternoon by 1:45 p.m.
Mrs. Barton will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
