Betty Sue Lumpkin

Betty Sue Lumpkin, age 75, a long time resident of the Shannon community, died Saturday, July 10th, 2010, in Calhoun Health Care in Calhoun.

A native of DeKalb County, Alabama, Miss Lumpkin was born on October 6th, 1934, the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Josie Lee Cushen Lumpkin. She was a member of Town Creek Baptist Church in Rainsville, Alabama. Miss Lumpkin worked with Davis Hosiery Mill in Ft. Payne, Ala. before moving to Rome and going to work with Klopman Mills in 1968. She retired from Galey and Lord in 1998 after 30 years of service. Miss Lumpkin along with her Mother and sister, Ruby, lovingly raised her niece, Linda Burns Roden from infancy. She was preceded in death by 16 brothers and sisters.

Linda and her husband, Robert, survives along with Betty's last remaining sibling, Phyllis Kirikos and her husband, Christ of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law also survive.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, July 13th, 2010 in the Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jody Brock officiating.

Graveside and interment services will be held on Wednesday morning, July 14th, 2010 at 11 o'clock in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jody Brock officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, John Mathis, Shawn Mathis, Byron Free, Jeremy Free, Kenneth Parker and Kevin Parker.

The family will be at the residence of a niece and her husband, Linda and Robert Roden.
