Billy Darrell Brumbelow

Billy Darrell Brumbelow, age 77, of #807 Avenue B, Rome, died on Friday evening, January 1st, 2010, at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Brumbelow was born on September 29th, 1932, the son of the late Carl W. and Ethel Smith Brumbelow. He atteneded McHenry High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Brumbelow played baseball in the Textile League and was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion. Mr. Brumbelow served with the Rome Police Department as an officer and detective and for a period of time served with the Floyd County Police Department. Prior to his retirement, he served as a Probation Officer with Juvenile Courts of Rome. Mr. Brumbelow was married to Martha Jean Stewart Brumbelow who preceded him in death on April 21st, 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Poff of Mentone, Alabama; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Cathie Brumbelow of Rome; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Brumbelow, Allison Brumbelow and Taylor Poff; 1 sister, Shirley Willis and her husband, David of Rome; 2 brothers, Glenn Brumbelow and his wife, Aleen of Rome and Jerry Brumbelow and his wife Sylvia of Calhoun, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Brumbelow will be held this (Monday) afternoon, January 4th, 2010, at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Mac McCurry and the Rev. Clyde Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, David Stewart, Dan Stewart, Freddie Stewart, Jeff Gribble, Jason Brumbelow and Crip Burkhalter.
Mr. Brumbelow will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Monday) afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o'clock. At other hours the family will be at the home of the son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Cathie Brumbelow, #19 Simpson Drive, West Rome.
