Charles Martin Ball

June 6, 1925 — June 20, 2012

Charles Martin'Charlie' Ball, age 87, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 20th, 2012 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Ball was born on June 6th, 1925, the son of the late Fennin Y. and Emma Firestone Ball. He was a life long resident of Rome, served in the United States Navy and was a 50 year member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion. Mr. Ball was a Seventh Day Adventist and was a retired carpenter having been associated with Bradfield and Pinson's of Rome for several years. Mr. Ball was married on February 11th, 1949 to Carrie J. Freeman Ball who preceded him in death on September 30th, 2008.

Survivors include 2 sons, Kenneth Ball (Beverly) of Woodstock, GA. and Martin Ball (Harriett) of Rome; 5 grandchildren, Hunter, Adam, Jason and Michael Ball and Brandy Blake; 3 great-grandchildren, Abby and Zoe Lane and Valentine Blake also survive.

Funeral services for Charles Martin'Charlie' Ball will be held on Saturday afternoon, June 23rd, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jody Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Fred Talley's Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o'clock.

Charlie would suggest spending Saturday playing 18 holes of golf or casting your line in the lake rather than attending his funeral. However if you choose to come to his service, please dress casually.
