Charles Sedley Ford

Charles Sedley Ford, age 76, of Rome, GA. passed away on October 25th, 2010 at a local hospital after a short illness.

A native of Durham, N.C., Mr. Ford was born on December 1st, 1933, the son of the late James D. and Retha Ford Fullam and the grandson of the late Arthur and Pearl Ford. He was a graduate of Lee Edward High School in Ashville, N.C. and Western North Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Mr. Ford served in the Armed Forces (U.S. Army) in the field of communications and photography. He received the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Mr. Ford was a member of the Shorter Avenue Baptist Church and retired from Kay-Towns Antenna as President after many years of service. Mr. Ford was always a prankster and had a great sense of humor which he exhibited till the end.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Della Arrowood Ford; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. Ford and his wife Rhonda, Mike Ford and his wife, Lee all of Rome; 4 grandchildren, Steven Ford, Zack Ford, Dora Lee Burnes, Jennifer Shook and her husband, Daniel; 1 great-grandchild, Keller Jack Singleton; 1 brother, David Fullam and his wife, Bobbie of Candler, N.C.; and 3 sisters, Lynn Miller and Nancy Fullam both of Candler, N.C. and Irene Atwell of Easley, S.C. He was loved by many cousins, nieces and nephew.

Funeral services for Charles Sedley Ford will be held on Thursday morning, October 28th, 2010 at 11 o'clock from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert M. Skelton officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

Mr. Ford will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 6 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence, 148 Shadow Lane, Rome.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Jeff Baker, Tommy Brown, Dan Langston, Tim Umberhandt, Johnny Watkins and Chris Niblett. Deacons from Shorter Avenue Baptist Church are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers.
