Cleo Harris

Mrs. Cleo Elizabeth Harris, age 94, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Fifth Avenue Healthcare.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Harris was born on February 15, 1923, a daughter of the late George and Minnie Lee Sprouce Pierce. She was a housewife and homemaker and a seamstress who loved gardening. Mrs. Harris had attended Hillcrest Baptist Church for a number of years and was a member of the Sunny Hill Baptist Church. She was always active in WMU, taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Harris, on July 16, 1972, with whom she had operated a family grocery for almost 30 years. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Polly Williams Comer and a brother, Russell Pierce.

Mrs. Harris is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and David Goddard of Rome; two sons, and a daughter-in-law, John and Linda Harris of Hixon, TN, and George Harris of Rome; two sisters, Mary Ruth Rutledge and Lucille Jones, both of Rome. Seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harris will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carl Sidwell Chapel of the Salmon Funeral Home with Dr. Talmadge Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.

Mrs. Harris will remain at the Salmon Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Saturday from noon until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Harris' family extends the warmest thanks and admiration for the staff of Fifth Avenue Healthcare and Heyman Hospice for the care and love shown to their Mom.
