Donald Gene McGuire, age 70, of #6 Baker Drive, SW, West Rome, died Monday afternoon, April 16th, 2007, at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. McGuire was born on August 16th, 1936, the son of Jessie Blankenship McGuire Edgins and the late Cicero Franklin McGuire. Mr. McGuire was of the Baptist faith and prior to returning to Rome 12 years ago, Mr. McGuire was a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada for 28 years. Prior to retirement, he was associated with Inland of Rome as a security officer. Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his wife, Blondale Studdard McGuire in 2004, to whom he was married on October 4th, 1965, a son, Ricky Gene McGuire in November 2003, 2 sisters, Mary Elizabeth Earwood and Doris Faye Norene and his father.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Carol Sue Stokes of Cave Spring, Ga., Sheila Ann Wilson and Vicky Lynn Dickert both of Rome and Tina Freeman of Liberty, Miss.; 1 son, Mickel Hulme of Gulf Shores, Ala.; his mother, Jessie McGuire Edgins of Rome; a sister, Chrissy Lindsey of Rome. 8 grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Donald Gene McGuire will be held on Thursday afternoon, April 19th, 2007, at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. David Beck and Rev. Kenneth Crow officiating with interment to follow in East View Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include Wayne Beck, Tim and Cary Lindsey, Jason and D.J. O'Berry and Scott Parker.
Mr. McGuire will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 6 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
