Donny Michael Bird Dog Pointer

Donny "Bird Dog" Pointer, age 48, of #30 Battey Drive, Rome, died Friday morning, July 6th, 2007 at a local hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Floyd County, Donny was born on December 20th, 1958, the son of Ralph E. and Virginia Nesmith Pointer. He was a life long resident of Rome and was of the Baptist Faith. For several years Donny was a Welder-Boilermaker with Local #454, Chattanooga and at the time of his death was associated with Dempsey Realty Company. He loved fishing and his dog "B". Donny was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Jane Firestone in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Firestone Pointer to whom he was married on August 22nd, 1977, 1 daughter, Angie Pointer of Rome; 1 son, Josh Pointer of Rome, his parents, Ralph and Virginia Pointer of Rome; 1 brother, Kenneth Pointer of Rome; his father-in-law, Claude Firestone of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Pointer will be held on Monday afternoon, July 9th, 2007 at 2 o'clock fro the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Mirdock officiating. Valerie Davis will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Barry Brumbelow, Robbie Mason, Josh Foster, Mike Erwing, Monty Davis and Doug Gresham.
Mr. Pointer will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours the family will be at the home of his parents, Ralph and Virginia Pointer, #26 Vineland Drive, (Summerville Park), Rome.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the family at any Suntrust Bank location in Rome.
