Doris June Hibbard

Mrs. Doris Sade Hibbard of 42 Wellington Way, Rome passed away Friday, November 3rd, 2006 at a local hospital following a short illness.
Mrs. Hibbard was born on March 4th in Alicia, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Ernest and Bertha Julian Sade. She graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in Arkansas. After graduation, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Mrs. Hibbard married Melburn Hibbard in Washington, D.C. in 1945 and they later moved to Atlanta, Ga. While in Atlanta, Mrs. Hibbard worked for the Veterans Administration as a Dietician. Mr. and Mrs. Hibbard moved from Atlanta to Cumberland, Maryland, then to Charleston, W. Virginia, then to Richmond, Virginia and in 1965 she and her family moved to Rome. Mrs. Hibbard was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a homemaker. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was an excellent cook who didn't need a recipe. Mrs. Hibbard loved to get the family together for a celebratory feast and her family loved her home-made biscuits, sage dressing and peanut butter balls. She enjoyed cooking, decorating and painting. She had a very strong faith and inner strength and was a follower of Christian Science. Mrs. Hibbard's favorite charitable concern was for shelters for women and children. Mrs. Hibbard was a beautiful person, inside and out and she had a kind, generous and loving spirit that will be missed forever by her family and friends. Mrs. Hibbard was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Ann Hibbard, her parents and a sister, Juanita Hensley.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Melburn Hibbard, a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kay Hibbard of Suwanee, Ga.; 3 daughters, Ms. Janet Butler of Atlanta, Ga., Ms. Lana Walker of Sandy Springs, Ga. and Susan and son-in-law, Mike Worthington of Summerville, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Byron Mauck of Memphis, Tenn.; She is also survived by 4 grandsons, Jeff Langston and wife Laura, Casey Butler, Mackenzie Butler and Jake Worthington, 3 step-grandsons, Todd and Billy Walker and David Kline, and her great-grandson, Marshall Langston, a niece and her husband, Marsha and Bob Heidbrink of Bowling Green, Kentucky, as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mrs. Doris Sade Hibbard will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 5th, 2006 at 3 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack P. Foley officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow on Monday morning at 11 o'clock at Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1 o'clock until 3 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
