Edna Jo Atkins

Edna Jo Atkins, age 72, of 66 Lyons Drive, Rome, died Monday evening, December 25th, 2006, at a local hospital.
A native of Calhoun County, Alabama, Mrs. Atkins was born on February 23rd, 1934, the daughter of the late J.C. and Gladys Mae Hart Martin. She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and was a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. Mrs. Atkins was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary at Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion and prior to her retirement was associated with the State of Georgia, Department of Labor.
Survivors include 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley L. and Freda Ann Atkins of Cedartown, Ga., Howard Logan Atkins and his wife, Linda of Everett Springs and Timothy and Marqueita Atkins of Rome; 3 grandchildren, Shannon, Lisa and Natasha Atkins, 2 sisters, Shirley Reece and Sue Brumbelow both of Rome; 2 brothers, Arthur E. Martin of Pensacola, Fla. and Charles Martin of Warner Robins, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Atkins will be held on Thursday afternoon, December 28th, 2006 at 2 o'clock at the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Hampton officiating with interment to follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Atkins will lie-in-state at the church on Thursday from 1 o'clock until the funeral hour.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Kindall VanDriver, Harry and Larry Treadaway, Billy White, Alvin Hardin and Cliff Fuqua.
Mrs. Atkins will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 o'clock until 9 o'clock. At other hours the family will at their respective homes.
