Edwin Macnorton Gilbreath

Edwin Mac Gilbreath, age 73, of the Floyd Springs Road, Armuchee, GA, died Friday evening, June 22, 2012, in a Rome hospital.

A native of Floyd County, GA, Mac was born on May 1, 1939, the son of the late Ernest Walter Gilbreath and the late Dealva Fuller Gilbreath. He was a 1958 graduate of Armuchee High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Army. Mac was a graduate of Coosa Valley Tech where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree and attended Covington Theological Seminary where he received his Bachelor's Degree. Mac was owner and operator of Air Tech Inc. of Rome for 20 years. He was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion. Mac was an active member and deacon of the Floyd Springs Baptist Church and was an ordained minister. Mac was actively involved in mission work around the world. He built churches, missionary homes, led evangelistic meetings and worked in schools and orphanages. Some of the many places Mac served include: Tanzania, Belgium, Jamaica, Grenada, Barbados, Venezuela, Brazil, the Philippines, French Guiana, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi. Mac was, preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Pete Kinsey in 1992.

Mac is survived by his wife, Glenda Kinsey Gilbreath, to whom he was married on December 23, 1961; one daughter, Regina Gilbreath Gupta of Armuchee; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Keith Gilbreath and his wife Lisa, of Armuchee; four grandchildren, Andrew, Caleb and Emmy Gilbreath, and Sarah Gupta; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Libby Gilbreath of Armuchee; mother-in-law, Mary Kinsey of Floyd Springs; sister-in-law, Lavonia Kinsey of Floyd Springs. Other family members include; Jeff Gilbreath, Sherri Peek, Delia Anderson, Jean Ann White, Jane Spacagna, Cleveland and Melissa Howard, Nancy Howard, Randy Howard, Jennifer and Randall Moore, and Charles and Melanie Wright.

Funeral services for Edwin Mac Gilbreath will be held on Tuesday morning, June 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Floyd Springs Baptist Church with his pastor, Rev. Dan Hyde, Rev. Kenneth Kulp and Rev. Jim Meola officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Floyd Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Honor Guard from the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion conferring military graveside rites. He will lie in-state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Mac will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. At other hours they may be contacted att he residence.

The following will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church on Tuesday morning by 9:45 and include Andrew Gilbreath, Caleb Gilbreath, Jeff Gilbreath, Tim Brannon, Blake Lambert, Randall Moore, Charles Wright, Dan Roper, Matt Dodd and Jason Ross. Honorary pallbearers will include, Bill Duke, Bill DeHart, Dr. Pat McGivaren, Larry Kinsey, Randy Hawkins, Charlie Miller, Jack Lumpkin, Ray Peugh, Wayne Holsonback, Ellis Terry, Henry Duke and Jeremy Duke.
