Elbert Monroe Boswell

Elbert M. Boswell, age 87, of#244 Woodridge Drive, Calhoun, Georgia and a former long resident of the Shannon Community, passed away Saturday night, July 6, 2013 at the residence in Calhoun.

A native of Bartow County, Georgia Mr. Boswell was born on December 6, 1925, the son of the late Richard King Boswell and the late Annie Marie Freeman Boswell. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Boswell was associated with Klopman Mills for many years, having retired as an Instructor. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Boswell and 3 sisters, Martha West, Ruby Boswell Webb Waldon and Mary Lee Seabolt. Mr. Boswell was married on September 17, 1943 to Lita Thornburg Boswell who preceded him in death on December 21, 1983. On December 30, 1984, Mr. Boswell was married to the former Rachel Anderson Jenkins who preceded him in death on May 9, 2013.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Ann Thacker and her husband, Clyde of Douglasville, GA. and Linda Boswell of Little Rock, Arkansas; 1 son, Reverend Dan Boswell and his wife, Shelor of Calhoun; 8 grandchildren, Neal Sutter, Camille Montgomery, Ronnie Sexton, David Boswell, Chris Boswell, Regina Ledbetter, Beth Mewborn and Stephen Thacker; 15 great-grandchildren, Jacob Sutter, Sara Sutter, Anna Marie Sutter, Coty Arnold, Bailey Sexton, Colin Sexton, Hensley Boswell, Kennedy Boswell, Jayden Boswell, Kayla Boucher, Hope Fitch, Britnay Thacker, Meagan Thacker, Jamie Thacker and Hannah Ledbetter; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Jaydyn Boucher and Brett Schock; 2 brothers, Roy Boswell and Troy Boswell both of Adairsville, GA.; 4 sisters, Effie Mae Culberson of Adairsville, GA., Mattie Belle Whittemore of Calhoun, GA., Lois Bradley, Ft. Worth, Texas and Mildred Colston, Adairsville, GA.; 2 stepsons, Jack Jenkins and Seabron Jenkins, Jr. both of Rome; 1 step-daughter, Sue Casey( Wayne) of Rome; 7 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren also survives as do nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Elbert M. Boswell will be held on Wednesday afternoon, July 10, 2013 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Reverend Max Tucker and Dr. Roger Whorton officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery with the Reverend Stephen Williams and Mr. Boswell's grandson, Chris Boswell officiating at the graveside.

Mr. Boswell will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 7 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence in Calhoun.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Neal Sutter, Stephen Thacker, David Boswell, Rodney Davis, Bill Hamilton, Steve Casey, Jack Jenkins and Seabron Jenkins, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will include Wayne Casey, Glenn Davis and Chris Boswell.
