Elizabeth Bass Zip Spivey

August 5, 1920 — February 25, 2008

Elizabeth Prater Bass Spivey, also known as "Zip" age 87, of #55 Sam Harris Road NE, Rome, died early Monday morning, February 25th, 2008 at the residence.
A native of Floyd County, Mrs. Spivey was born on August 5th, 1920, the daughter of the late Marvin and Cora Lee Hooper Prater. She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and was one of the oldest members of Mizpah United Methodist Church. "Zip" was an excellent mother and homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and provider of ample sustenance for her family. She greatly enjoyed working with her gardens and spending time with an extended family. Mrs. Spivey was loved by many who will remember her friendly and fun loving spirit. Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Lee Bass, Jr. in 1977 and her second husband Alver Kenneth Spivey in 1994. "Zip" was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mabel Bass Durden and Hugh Durden of Rome; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Harvey Lee Bass, III of Orlando, Fla. and George Steven Bass and Teresia Dill Bass of Resaca, GA.; 3 grandchildren, John Durden of Rome, Celia Durden Klardie of Holly Springs, GA. and Whittney Millsap of Resaca, Ga. 3 great-grandchildren also survive as do a sister, Mildred Prater Davis of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Elizabeth "Zip" Prater Bass Spivey will be held on Wednesday afternoon, February 27th, 2008, at 2 o'clock at the Mizpah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brad Prater and the Rev. Roger Canuel officiating with interment to follow in the Mizpah United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Spivey will lie-in-state at the church on Wednesday from 1 o'clock until the funeral hour.
Active pallbearers include, Hugh and John Durden, Steve Bass, Chris Klardie, Mike Prater and Rev. Brad Prater.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mizpah United Methodist Church, 4055 Kingston Highway NE, Kingston, Georgia 30145.
Elizabeth "Zip" Prater Bass Spivey will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
