Fielding (Hight) Stutts

Mrs. Fielding Hight Stutts of 48 Bellemont Drive, S.W., Rome, GA. passed away at her residence on Monday, April 1st, 2019. Fielding was born on August 21, 1952, in Rome, Ga. and was the daughter of the late Gordon Lee Hight, Jr. and Kathleen Stewart Hight.

She graduated from the Thornwood School for Girls and attended Stetson College, Deland, FL. and received her degree from Shorter College, Rome, GA. Fielding was married to Stephen Avery Stutts of Lakeland, FL. On July 28, 1973. The couple made their home in Rome, where Fielding worked as a travel agent at the Travel Center. Fielding was a former partner and owner of Simpson Grocery Company, a distributor of the Anheuser-Busch Company, and one of Romes oldest businesses, founded in 1869.

Fielding became involved in numerous community activities, including the Junior Service League of Rome where she served as president in 1984 -1985, Chieftains Museum as a board member, St. Peters Episcopal Church Altar Guild and president of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was an accredited Master Flower Show Judge.

Fielding had an extensive knowledge and love for the natural world and enjoyed her participation on the board of the Georgia Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. She was a member of the Mayflower Society.

Fielding was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her husband, Stephen Avery Stutts, her sister, Kathleen Hight Smithson, and her brother-in-law, James D. Smithson. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Charles L. Stutts and his wife Danielle of Tampa, FL.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, April 5th, 2019 at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Rome, GA. with the Reverend John Foster Herring, Rev. Janice Wright and Rev. Roger Ard officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 4th, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the residence 48 Bellemont Drive S.W. Rome, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request memorial contributions be made to Friends of Chieftains, Inc. P.O. Box 373, Rome, GA 30162 or Paws for Claws, 175 Shoals Ferry Road Rome, GA. 30161.
