Guyton Dial Selman

July 31, 1922 — August 7, 2013

Guyton Dial "Guy" Selman, age 91, of Rome passed away early Wednesday morning, August 7, 2013 in a Rome hospital.

A native of Anderson, South Carolina, Mr. Selman was born on July 31, 1922, the son of the late John D. and Ollie Chapman Selman. He had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Selman was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. For more than 35 years, Mr. Selman was associated with the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Rome and for more than 20 years was associated with the North Rome Piggly Wiggly. For more than 55 years, Mr. Selman was associated with the Coosa Valley Fair of Rome. Mr. Selman was preceded in death by a son, Rudy C. Selman in 1974 and by a brother, Jesse James Selman.

Survivors include his wife, Connis Braswell Selman to whom he was married on January 18, 1947; 3 sons, Randel Greg Selman and his wife, Elaine of Rome, Guyton Durand Selman of Shannon and Byron Jay Selman of Rome; 4 grandchildren, Jacob Selman and his wife, Chelsea of Cumming, GA., Joanna Selman of Rome, Tonia Mohler of Shannon and Rudy Selman and his wife, Ashley of Rome. 2 great-grandchildren also survive as do 1 sister, Rosa Lee Thacker of Rome and 5 brothers, William H. "Bill' Selman (Stella) of Lake Worth, Fla., Johnny O. Selman of Rome, Rufus C. Selman(Helen) of Albany, GA., Cecil C. Selman (Elanie) of Edgewater, Fla. and Paul A. Selman (Molly) of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Guyton Dial "Guy" Selman will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 10, 2013 at 3 o'clock in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Reverend Billy Moss and Mr. Joel Mabry officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

Family members will serve as active pallbearers.

Mr. Selman will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1 until 3 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
