Harold Joseph Earwood, age 78, of #2532 Shorter Avenue, Rome and a former resident of #44 Kings Bridge Road, Cave Springs, died Monday morning, August 4th, 2008 in an Atlanta Hospital.
A native of Austell, Georgia, Mr. Earwood was born on November 16th, 1929, the son of the late Alva J. and Ruby Westbrooks Earwood. He had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army. Mr. Earwood was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of The Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion and was a Mason. Mr. Earwood was married on September 9th, 1958 to Elizabeth McGuire Earwood who preceded him in death on September 28th, 2002.
Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Jennifer Earwood of Rome and Erik and Missy Earwood of Cave Springs, GA.; 6 grandchildren, Lorrica Purdy, Jason, Samson and Taran Earwood, Ashley Bray and Beau Earwood, 3 sisters, Charlotte Abrams of Rome, Joyce Waits of Centre, Ala. and Kathleen Bodie of Washington; 3 brothers, Lionel and T.J. Earwood both of Centre, Ala. and Carney Earwood of Winder, Ga. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Earwood will be held this (Wednesday) morning, August 6th, 2008 at 11 o'clock from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jody Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion conducting military graveside rites.
Members of Post #5 Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
The family received friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 o'clock at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.
