Helen Stowe Tatum

Mrs. Helen Tatum, age 94, of Rome, GA, formerly of Cave Spring, GA, passed away on June 27, 2017, in a local health care facility.

A native of Cave Spring, Helen was born on February 3, 1923, a daughter of the late William Robert Stowe and Lola Bernice Weems Stowe. During World War II she worked in Goodyear Tire Company of Gadsden, AL. Helen worked as a seamstress in Centre, AL, during the Vietnam era making Army uniform. Her last job and the one she loved was as a houseparent for Georgia School for the Deaf in the high school girl's dorm in Cave Spring, where she retired. After retirement Helen enjoyed many activities including traveling to many areas including Europe. She loved to work in her garden of flowers and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cave Spring. Helen was an avid music lover both gospel and country music., She was a member of the Georgia Mountain Music Club, The Silverado's Line Dance Group for a number of years and the Stitchers Sewing Club. Helen had volunteered at Redmond Hospital a number of years and was a member of the G.E. Retires Club. She was a loving wife and who loved her family dearly.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by four brothers, Willard Stowe, Roy Stowe, Allen Stowe and Elmo Stowe, sister, Lucille S. Grimes, son-in-law, James "Joe" Gossett, and daughter-in-law, Marie Tatum.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Lynda Tatum Gossett of Armuchee, GA; two sons and daughter-in-law, George H. Tatum, Jr., and his wife Ann of Cartersville, GA, and William Luther Tatum and special friend, Dutch Rogers, of Cave Spring; grandsons, John (Sonia) Gossett, Jody Gossett, Clint (Laura) Tatum, Chad (Danielle) Tatum, and Cody Williams; granddaughters, Tamala Tatum Baker (Matt); great-grandchildren, Gracelyn, Ella and Ethan Baker, Joseph and David Gossett, Wyatt and Jack Henry Tatum and Ethan Tatum; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Conden Stowe of Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Betty Stowe of Alabama. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Stowe Tatum will be held on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the Cave Spring First Baptist Church with Rev. Jacob Wayne Kines officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherokee Memory Gardens in Centre, AL.

Helen will lay in-state at the church of Friday where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Pallbearers are asked to meet tat he church of Friday by 2:30 p.m. and include John Gossett, Jody Gossett, Joseph Gossett, David Gossett, Clint Tatum, Wyatt Tatum, Chad Tatum and Don Stowe.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made in honor of Helen to the Cave Spring First Baptist Church, 4 Old Cedartown Road, Cave Spring, GA, 30124.
