J.W. Casey

J.W. Casey, age 89 of #21 London Lane, SE, Rome, Ga., died Tuesday morning, March 11th 2008 at a local hospital.
A native of Chattooga County Ga., Mr. Casey was born on June 10th, 1918 son of the late Robert F. and Pleasant Myrtle Padgett Casey. Mr. Casey spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a member of Cedar Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Casey was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy, a member of Cedartown Eastern Star #213, Oostanaula Masonic Lodge #113 F&AM, the Rome Shrine Club and Yaarab Shrine Temple of Atlanta. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Casey was a farmer and with his wife owned and operated Casey's Grocery of Rome for many years. Mr. Casey was proceeded in death by 4 brothers; John M. Casey, Delmar Casey, Melvin Casey and Robert Lee Casey.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Fannie Mae Touchstone Casey, to whom he was married on May 20th 1940; A special son and daughter-in-law, John and Melanie Casey of Rome, a special niece, Rosemary Hammonds of Rome, a special nephew, Melvin Eugene Casey Jr. of Alabama. Other nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Casey will be held on Thursday afternoon, March 13th, 2008 at 2 o'clock from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Hartwell Nolan officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Members of Shanklin-Attaway Post#5 Honor Guard will serve as active pallbearers.
Mr. Casey will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 7 until 9 o'clock. At other hours the family will be at the home of John and Melanie Casey, #4 Pierce Hill Road, Shannon Community.
