James Harold Black

Mr. James Harold Black, age 81, of 103 Echota Circle, Rome, GA. died Sunday afternoon, October 8th, 2006 at his home.
Mr. Black was born in Stilesboro, GA. on December 7th, 1924, the son of the late Herman B. and Lizzie Jackson Black. He had been a resident of Rome since 1950, moving here from Bartow County. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor from 1944 until 1946. Mr. Black was a charter member of the Wesley Southern Methodist Church where for many years he taught Sunday School and served his church and his God in a variety of positions. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was associated with Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital. Mr. Black was an avid fox hunter and delighted in his dogs. He was a faithful husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, Mr. Black was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Black Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Rachel Taylor; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and Dennis Corbin of Armuchee and Nancy Hudson of Birmingham, Ala.; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Paige Black of Athens, GA.; 7 grandchildren, Rachel (Gary) Linderman, Phillip Corbin, Miles Hudson, III, Taylor Husdon, Stephen Corbin, Katelyn Black and Lauren Black; 2 great-grandsons, James and Nathan Linderman. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth (Charles) Foley of Oxford, Ohio. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. James Harold Black will be held on Wednesday afternoon, October 11th, 2006 at 1 o'clock at Wesley Southern Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Shippey and the Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating. Interment to follow in the family lot of Stilesboro Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard, American Legion conducting military graveside rites.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Black will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other times the family may be contacted at the residence.
