James Whitley Dillard

March 5, 1946 — January 19, 2011

James Whitley Dillard, age 64, of #37 Whispering Pines Road, NE, Rome, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 19th, 2011 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Whitfield County, Georgia, Mr. Dillard was born on March 5th, 1946, the son of the late Earl and Pauline Dillard. He attended school in the Whitfield County School System and had been a resident of Floyd County since 1967 moving here from Dalton, Georgia. James was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Army and for 28 years was associated with Elbert Roberson Auto Collision of Rome. For the past several years, James was self-employed in automobile paint and body work. He was of the Baptist Faith. James was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Brooks and by 2 brothers, Thomas Dillard who lived in Buford, Georgia and Glenn Dillard who lived in Rome.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hobgood Dillard to whom he was married on July 5th, 1968; 1 daughter, Michelle Dillard of Calhoun, GA; 1 sister, Margaret Plott of Dalton, GA.; 2 brothers, Benny Dillard of Rome and R.L. Dillard of Dalton, GA.

Funeral services for James Whitley Dillard will be held on Sunday afternoon, January 23rd, 2011 at 2 o'clock from Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel with Rev. Josh Pilgrim and Dr. Bill Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Gerald Keasler, Benji Dillard, Bradley Dillard, Gene Brooks, Chris Hobgood and Jerry Boswell.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel.
