James Wilburn Culberson

James W. "Woody" Culberson, age 78, of #109 Benton Drive, Rome (Garden Lakes Community) passed away on Sunday morning, May 19, 2013 at his home in Rome, Ga.

Woody was born on April 11, 1935, the son of the late James and Ida Morrow Culberson. He attended Model High School and was of the Baptist Faith. Woody was a retired truck driver having been associated with Pettyjohn Trucking for several years. Woody enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, wrestling and had a passion for NASCAR. His favorite drivers were Bill Elliott and Mark Martin. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Woody was preceded in death by his parents, by 3 brothers and a sister.

Woody is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rebecca "Becky" Shaw Culberson to whom he was married on June 20, 1959; 6 children, Cathy Markin and her husband, Joe of Shiloh, Il., Teresa Haney of Lindale, GA., Jim Culberson and his wife Debbie of Rome, Tina Worley and her husband, Richard of Adairsville, GA., Melissa Porter and her husband Roy of Bartow, Fla. and Daniel Culberson and his wife, Shannah of Silver Creek, GA.;11 grandchildren, Crystal Lewis, Ronnie Lewis, Jr., Rick Worley, Celia Worley, J.J. Culberson, Jr. Allison Culberson, Roy "Bubba" Porter, Trace Porter, Chandler, Levi, and Halei Ortwein-Culberson; 3 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jordan Barger and Aleigha McDaniel. 1 sister, Vivian Varner of Rome also survive as do several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for James W. "Woody" Culberson will be held on Wednesday afternoon, May 22, 2013 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Morrow officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Rome Midway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Woody will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 7 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.

Woody's grandchildren along with Richard Worley and Roy Porter will serve as active pallbearers.
