Jefferson David Nolan, Sr.

January 27, 1928 — September 4, 2022

Mr. Jefferson David "J.D." Nolan, Sr. age 94, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 4, 2022.


Mr. Nolan was born on January 27, 1928, in Rossville, GA. He was the son of the late Hartwell Earnest Nolan, Sr and Agnes Whitehead Nolan. J.D. had a 40 year career with Southern Bell/AT&T, starting out as a lineman and retiring as a Construction Manager. He continued working another 20 years with RayChem Corporation providing product training. Some of his favorite times in retirement were the monthly meetings of the Telephone Company Pioneers. Mr. Nolan was a faithful member of the North Broad Baptist Church for many years, where he served as a deacon and was in the choir for over 50 years.


J.D. was an active member of the community serving in many different capacities to help others in need. He was committed to giving back to the community and was always willing to step in and lend a hand. He had an amazing memory and remembered everyone’s phone number. Mr. Nolan was a talented artist and painter with his work being exhibited in many different locations. In addition to painting and spending time with family, J.D. loved to spend time at his lake home, fish and golf. His entire family and all his friends knew J.D. as very outgoing and energetic, and he will be missed by all.


Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years; Christine Mealer Nolan of Rome, GA; daughters: Patrice Nolan White and her husband Michael of Marietta, GA, Barbara Blankenship Earle and her husband, Kenneth of Rome, GA; daughter-in-law, Tara Nolan; son, Thomas Blankenship and his wife Janet of Rome, GA; eight grandsons: Ryan (Kristen) Barnes, Corey Nolan, Russell (Griffin) Nolan, Nick Nolan, Mac (Tara) Earle, Danny (Olivia) Earle, Matthew (Megan) White, Patrick Blankenship, and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Nolan was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of two of his children, Juanita Garrett Nolan; son, Jeff Nolan; his parents; brothers: Hartwell Earnest Nolan, Jr., infant brother, Basil Nolan; sisters: Delora Nolan Lloyd and Emma Ruth Nolan.


A Funeral Service for Mr. Jefferson David “J.D.” Nolan will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 1:30 pm at the North Broad Baptist Church with Rev. Micah Pritchett officiating. J.D.'s family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm at the church. Interment will take place at Eastview Cemetery following the funeral service with J.D.’s grandsons serving as pallbearers.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the North Broad Baptist Church.
