Jimmy Remoan Jarrard

August 18, 1952 — September 5, 2015

This weekend we lost a beloved part of our family in the passing of Remoan Jarrard. He was a1970 graduate of Model High School, architect by trade and man of great taste; however, he battled a form of myscular dystrophy his entire life. He never complained and said he would choose holiness over getting out of his wheelchair.

Today, we share a few thoughts on who Remoan Jarrard really was outside of muscular dystrophy. We live in an age where individuals are judged by the perceptions of physical abilities. We look at athletes and think they must be supermen because they are strong, powerful, explosive, and fast; therefore, they must me invincible inside and out. Well, Remoan had not been able to walk in over four decades. He did not have enough strength to lift his own glass of water, did not have enough energy to raise his fork to his mouth without assistance, and his lungs were lacking the powerful expandabilityto even blow out candles on his birthday cakes. Physical limitations never defined Remoan. To us, he was our superman; he was invincible.
Remoan held his family and friends together spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. He was the one that set the foundation for each of his family member's families to live out their faith and to serve Jesus. Remoan set the foundation of humility and servanthood and led by Godly example.
When things got rough and someone needed guidance, they went to Remoan. When heartbreaks occurred, and family or friend needed someone to bear half of their pain and burden, they went to Remoan. When a victorywas had, Remoan was one of the first to share our joy. He was our superman.

We live in a day and age where everyone has a label that supposedly defines who they are as a person and their role in your life. "Oh he was handicapped; oh he was ONLY your uncle". According to labels, Remoan was only an uncle and uncle-in-law, but you cannot put a label on that man. Remoan was not identified or limited due to his disability because his disability NEVER defined who he was. He was defined by who he was in Jesus Christ. Remoan once said, 'I want to be useful and of value. I have some limitations but will go wherever my wheelchair will go.'

Remoan was more than an uncle, great uncle, brother, and son. He was our everything. To us, he was a second father, a friend, and mentor. To his family, he played many needed roles in their lives. He was the rock, the spiritual pillar, and foundation that has helped develop core values. To his two nieces and nephew, he was a second father who loved them, encouraged them, and inspired them to achieve greatness with God at the center of their lives. To his brothers, he was the one that held everything together. To his Mother, well he was the angel that God blessed her with to care for him for 63 amazing years. To the great-kids, he was a grandpa, a very special friend, a partner in crime, and the mad scientist that lived life to the fullest through their extra arms and hands whether it was creating, designing, building, growing, cooking gourmet, burning things and even blowing them up.

Remoan Jarrard was a very special man to so many people, but to us he will always be our superman, the rock of our great family.Remoan will be greatly missed as heaven gained an amazing man of God! Thanks Uncle Remoan. We love you!
