John Warren Corbin

March 1, 1923 — April 5, 2011

John Warren Corbin, age 88, of the Scoggins Road, Rome, passed away Tuesday evening, April 5th, 2011 at Oak View Nursing Center in Summerville, Ga.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Corbin was born on March 1st, 1923, the son of the late Earve Alexander Corbin and the late Cora Davis Corbin. He spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army. Mr. Corbin was a member of the Armuchee Baptist Church and a member of the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 F&AM where he had received his 50 year apron. Prior to his retirement he was a farmer and was in the timber business. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Mae Brock Corbin in 1950, by a daughter, Joanne Corbin Chapman on June 10th, 2010 and by 2 sons, Gary Allen Corbin and John Wayne Corbin. Mr. Corbin was married on July 2nd, 1951 to Edna Jo Gallmon Corbin who preceded him in death on July 5th, 2009.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Glennice Parker and her husband, Johnny of Rome and Judy Plemons of Rome; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Sandra Corbin of Rome, Ricky and Darrylene Corbin of Rome and Ed and Jackie Corbin of West Hills, California; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive as do 4 sisters, Mary Lou Corbin, Faynell Selman, Bess Scoggins and Sue Brooks all of Rome; 1 brother, Lewis Corbin of Conyers, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Corbin will be held this (Friday) afternoon, April 8th, 2011 at 3 o'clock at the Armuchee Baptist Church, Big Texas Valley Road, with the Rev. Glenn Clonts officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Michael Corbin, Ben Corbin, Adam Corbin, Fred Chapman, Greg Pledger and Donnie Flowers.

Mr. Corbin will lie-in-state at the Armuchee Baptist Church this (Friday) afternoon from 2 until 3 o'clock where the family will receive friends.
