John Wesley Corbin

John Wesley Corbin, Jr. age 89, of Rome, GA. passed away on Thursday afternoon, October 21st, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia.
A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, Mr. Corbin was born on August 9th, 1921, the son of the late John Wesley Corbin, Sr. and the late Mary Rebecca Kerce Corbin. Mr. Corbin had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and Floyd County and was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Corbin was a graduate of Rome High School and was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his degree in Forestry. Mr. Corbin was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rome. Prior to his retirement Mr. Corbin was owner and operator of Corbin Pulpwood and Timber Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Leanora Storey Corbin on November 20th, 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Chambers Corbin of Rome; 3 daughters, Anna Rebecca Corbin Black and her husband, Joe of Winter Park, Fla., Carol Frances Corbin Stanton and her husband, Bob of Acworth, GA. and Catherine Corbin Hart of Val Rico, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, John Storey Corbin and his wife, Phyllis of Greenville, IL.; 8 grandchildren, Ashley, Chris, Dan, LeAnn, John, JoAnna, Wesley and Neil; 3 great-grandchildren, Emmett, Elle and Emmy.
Funeral services for Mr. Corbin will be held this (Sunday) afternoon, October 24th, 2010 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Dr. David Campbell and the Rev. Roy Goolsby officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Mr. Corbin will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Chris Black, Dan Hart, John S. Corbin, Jr., Kenny Baker, Bob Stanton and J.R. Gray.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to a favorite charity.
