Mary Jane Kilgo

Mary Jane "Janie" Kilgo, age 65 of the Garden Lakes Community, Rome, passed away on Friday morning, August 30, 2013 at a Rome hospital following complications from surgery.

Mrs. Kilgo was born on February 27, 1948, in Chattooga County, GA, a daughter of the late J.J. Milstead and Clara Pettyjohn Milstead. She was married to James A. Kilgo on October 19, 1969, and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2001. Mrs. Kilgo was a graduate of Armuchee High School and for a period of time was associated with McCall Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Janie has served as bookkeeper and administrative secretary at Garden Lakes Elementary School since 1985. She has touched the lives of many students, families and staff members over the years. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bennie Milstead, and a sister, Annie Ruth Laster.

Mrs. Kilgo is survived by two sons, Mike Kilgo and his wife, Lori Knight Kilgo, of Euharlee, GA; and Chris Kilgo and his wife, Luanne Thomas Kilgo, of Ringgold, GA; a sister, Barbara Beard and her husband, Joe Beard, of Rome; three brothers, Albert D. Milstead of Medical Lake, Washington, Levi Milstead of Armuchee, GA, and Charles Milstead of Gore, GA; grandchildren she adored with all of her heart, Cole Kilgo, Davis Kilgo, Jarrett Kilgo, Jamison Kilgo and Jaylee Kilgo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane "Janie" Kilgo will be held this (Sunday) afternoon, September 1, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Gary McWhorter officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Janie will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) afternoon from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.

The following will serve as active pallbearers: Jimmy Knight, Andrew Myers, Stephen Mobley, Jason Rogers, Scott Justice and Bill Teat. The Faculty and Staff of Garden Lakes Elementary School are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Active and honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Garden Lakes Elementary School, 2903 Garden Lakes Blvd., Rome, GA, 30165
