Mattie Mae Autry

Devoted wife and mother Mattie Mae Davis Autry, 80, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010.
The life-long resident of Floyd County, Georgia, Mrs. Autry was born Feb. 18, 1930. She was an active member of Enon Baptist Church of Rome, Ga., since her childhood.

A 1948 graduate of Model High School in Rome, Ga., Autry had been employed as a spinner at Klopman Mills in Shannon, Ga., for more than 20 years. She would meet her spouse of five-plus decades while working at the plant. The couple then would raise three sons.
Preceding her death were her parents John W. Davis and Julia Mae Cochran Davis; sister and brother-in-law Zora Belle Davis Wright and Marvin Wright; brother and sister-in-law Hugh D. Davis and Lucille Davis; and daughter-in-law Rhonda Autry.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years Paul F. Autry; sons and daughters-in-law Rodney F. and Lynn Autry of Manassas, Va., Barry P. Autry of Rome, Ga., and Enoch W. and Lorie Autry of Sylvania, Ga.; grandchildren and grand daughters-in-law Jonathan C. and Rebecca Autry of Lynchburg, Va., Joshua M. and Jennifer Autry of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Jeremiah S. Autry of Lynchburg, Va., Joseph B. Autry of Lynchburg, Va., Jessica H. Autry of Lynchburg, Va., Stone K. Autry of Sylvania, Ga., Broc P. Autry of Sylvania, Ga., Tea E. Autry of Sylvania, Ga., and Callee J. Autry of Sylvania, Ga.; great grandchildren Elijah N. Autry of Lynchburg, Va., Josiah J. Autry of Lynchburg, Va., and Naomi R. Autry of Lynchburg, Va.; brothers and sister-in-law J.H. Davis of Calhoun, Ga., and Robert and Carol Davis of Calhoun, Ga.; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home at 2516 New Calhoun Highway, N.E., Rome, Ga.

Funeral services will be at Enon Baptist Church in Rome, Ga., at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010. The body will lie in state one hour before the services begin. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Salmon Cemetery in Rome, Ga.

Officiating the funeral service will be her eldest son Dr. Rodney F. Autry with assistance from pastors Dr. Bill Dempsey of Enon Baptist Church and Rev. Larry Hogan of Agape Baptist Church in Calhoun, Ga.

Pallbearers are grandchildren Jonathan C. Autry, Joshua M. Autry, Jeremiah S. Autry and Joseph B. Autry and two of her nephews Ronald A. Davis and Brian K. Davis.

Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren Stone K. Autry and Broc P. Autry; the members of Enon Baptist Church's Senior Adult Sunday School Class and Enon's members of the Ruth Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Benevolence Fund at Enon Baptist Church at 3105 Turkey Mountain Road N.E., Rome, Ga., 30161.

Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
