Mildred Davis

Mrs. Mildred Prater Davis, age 85, of #1355 Horseleg Creek Road, Rome, passed away, Sunday night, October 5th, 2008 at the Golden Living Care Center in Rome following an extended illness.
Mrs. Davis was born in Floyd County on October 2nd, 1923, daughter of the late Bishop Marvin Prater and the late Cora Lee Hooper Prater. She was the youngest of ten children, all who have preceded her in death. She was married to James William Davis, Sr. on April 18th, 1943 who also preceded her in death on November 12th, 1979.
She lived her entire life in Floyd County and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rome. In her early adult life she was a homemaker and was active in P.T.A. and Girl Scouts and was employed at several of the Broad Street stores including Belk Rhodes and the Rome Thrift Store. Later in life she was associated with the Mother's Morning Out Program at the First United Methodist Church, Rome and for many years kept children in her home.
Survivors include four daughters: Kelli DoettL and her husband Michael, Ginger Noble and her husband, Robert, and Jill Davis all of Rome, Kim Rhyne and her husband Tim of Enterprise, AL; and one son, Jim Davis of Rome; twelve grandchildren: Sheryn Dunbar, Jeff Burchett, Matthew Henry, Bert Noble, June Noble, Jonathan Davis, Alex Davis, Jennifer Rhyne, Timothy Rhyne, Michael Mitchell, William Mitchell and Ben Mitchell. Six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Prater Davis will be held on Wednesday morning, October 8th, 2008 at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth McKenzie officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Garden.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
Mrs. Davis will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
