Rachel Black

Rachel Taylor Black passed away at the home of Dennis & Kathy Corbin on Monday, October
28, 2013. She was born June 9, 1923 in Spring Creek, GA, fifth child of Gilbert Pickens and Pattie Ayer Taylor.

After graduating from Taylorsville High School in 1942, Rachel worked for the US Forest Service in Atlanta. She married James Harold Black August 23, 1947. They lived in Rome and Silver Creek, GA since 1950 where she was a devoted mother to their children Kathleen Lynn, Nancy Ruth, and James David Black. She retired from the GA Dept of Family & Childrens' Services in 1991.

Rachel was always very active in her church and was the last living charter member of Wesley
Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing for her family and friends, gardening, and
caring for anyone in need. In addition to her parents and seven siblings, she was preceded in
death by her husband of 59 years.

She is survived by her children -- Kathy Corbin of Armuchee, Nancy Hudson of Birmingham AL, and Jim Black of Statham, GA -- and their spouses -- Dennis Corbin and Paige Storey Black. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Rachel (Gary) Linderman of Leeds AL, Phillip Corbin of Seattle WA, Miles (Libby) Hudson of Ann Arbor MI, Taylor Hudson of Birmingham, Stephen Corbin of Acworth, Katelyn Black of Athens, and Lauren Black of Statham; three great
grandchildren, James, Nathan, and Jack Linderman; sister-in-law Elizabeth Black Foley of
Oxford OH, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear and faithful friend
of more than 80 years, Evelyn Milam Braden.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 31, at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley
Methodist Church, with Dr. Paul Camp Officiating. Grandsons and nephews will serve
as pallbearers. Graveside service and interment will be in Stilesboro Cemetery.

Mrs. Black's family will receive friends at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, October 30, from 5 until 8 p.m.
