Roy Carlton Brand

Mr. Roy Carlton Brand, age 92 of Statham, GA. and a former long time resident of West Rome, passed away Sunday morning, September 25th, 2011 in Statham.

A native of Fulton County, Georgia, Mr. Brand was born on January 2nd, 1919, the son of the late Alvin Newton Brand and the late Lydia Dunson Brand. Mr. and Mrs. Brand became residents of Rome in 1956 moving here from Cobb County, Georgia. Mr. Brand was a 1938 graduate of Technological High School in Atlanta, was a 1949 graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree. He was a World War II veteran having served as a 1st Lt. in the United States Air Force serving as a bombardier. Mr. Brand was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with 4 Bronze Stars for Rome-Arno, Southern France, Balkans, and Germany Campaigns. He was also awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Culsters. Mr. Brand was a chartered member of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Prior to retirement in 1984 he was associated with IBM for 36 years retiring as a Service Engineer. Mr. Brand was preceded in death by his parents, by 3 brothers, Tom, Frank and Wilburn Brand and by 2 sisters, Grace Wright and Ethel Long.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Lillian Frances Lamb Brand to whom he was married on May 29th, 1940; a daughter, Carol J. Powell of Athens, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Roy Carlton Brand will be held on Wednesday afternoon, September 28th, 2011 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Dr. Clarence Drummond officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Brand will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
