Ruth Alexander

March 6, 1930 — February 22, 2019

Ciba Ruth Stone Alexander, 88, of Rome, GA, passed away following a lengthy illness on Friday, February 22, 2019, at her daughters home in Panama City Beach, FL. Ruth, the youngest daughter of the late Landon Tucker Stone and Annie Etta Youngblood Stone, was born March 6, 1930.

Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Samuel Alexander, SR; a daughter, Judy Ruth Alexander; her brothers, Bob, Bernie, and Bill Stone, and an older sister, Louise Wells. Ruth and her siblings are originally from the Chattanooga, TN, area.

Ruth was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a homemaker and a gifted seamstress. She was very talented in her sewing and was well known for her ability to create almost anything and everything that anyone would ask of her. She seamlessly created dresses and gowns for weddings, lots of theatre and dance costumes as well as very many cheerleading and majorette uniforms. Ruth made tailored clothing and items for many individuals and groups throughout the tri-state region of Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. Sewing for others and her family was truly her passion.

Ruth loved life and all the people that she came to know through her sewing and worshiping. She was a long-time member of West Rome Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist, which was her most recent Christian home for praise and worship. She loved singing in the choir and simply being at church for fellowship and being with her beloved friends. Everyone in her church family was a treasure to her in her celebration of life and God.

In her earlier years, Ruth loved to go bowling and square dancing for recreation. Before her husband passed away in 1987, she also enjoyed traveling on the touring buses that the family owned. In her later years, her interests included reading, working crossword, crypt-o-quotes, Sudoku puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.

Closest survivors to Ruth include four children, Sammy (Betty Sue) Alexander of Acworth, Freida (Richard) Bates of Rome, Jayne Alexander of Panama City Beach, FL, and Pat (Sandy) Alexander, of Rome. There are ten grandchildren: Shawn Alexander and Angela Alexander both of Panama City Beach, FL, Anna Beth (Tracy) Long of Rome, Tim (Zarah) Bates of Knoxville, TN, Seth (Kelsi) Alexander of Dallas, GA, Matthew (Danielle) Bates of Nashville, TN, Amanda Hall, Christian Schuler, Skylar and Keano Nestor all of Rome. Ruth was also blessed and survived by seven great-grandchildren: Austin, Haley, Braxton, Brayden, Zylan, Devon and Keever.

The family will be receiving friends at Salmon Funeral Home, 2516 New Calhoun Hwy, NE Rome, on Friday, March 1, 2019, from 4:00 until 6:30 pm with a Celebration of Life service following at 7:00 pm.
