Mrs. Sherri Ann Purdy Nix, age 43, of Armuchee, Georgia(the Everett Springs Community) passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 1, 2013 at her residence after a long, courageous battle with Leukemia.
Sherri was born on May 27, 1970 in Rome, GA., the daughter of Jerry and Martha Ann McKinney Purdy. She was a 1988 graduate of Armuchee High School and a member of the Floyd Springs Baptist Church. Sherri gained her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Shorter College in 1992, her Master's degree in Education from Berry College in 2001 and her ED. Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial in 2004. Sherri was employed with Floyd County Schools in 1993 when she began teaching Kindergarten at Garden Lakes Elementary. Sherri taught for many years at Glenwood Primary before serving as Assistant Principal at Garden Lakes Elementary since 2008. Sherri has touched the lives of many students, families and staff members over the years. Sherri has been an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Her love and dedication for teaching was evident in the way she blessed so many lives.
Survivors include her husband, Barry Nix, to whom she was married on March 28, 1992; a son, Jake Nix and a daughter, Jesse Ann Nix who she loved with all her heart. Her parents, Jerry and Martha Ann McKinney Purdy ; also a brother, Marcus Purdy and his wife, Brandy Purdy; nephews, Riley and Luke Purdy; niece, Chloe Purdy; mother and father-in-law, Julian and Marlyn Thomas Nix; sister-in-law, Sheila Fuller and her husband, Ted; nieces, Leah Tucker and Lenee' Grogan.
Funeral services for Sherri will be held this (Thursday), October 3, 2013 at 12 o'clock noon at the Floyd Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Hyde officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of Floyd Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Active pallbearers include the following gentleman, Lance McDonald, Marcus Purdy, Marvin Williams, Ted Fuller, Clint Thacker and Mattew Grogan. The faculty and staff of Garden Lakes Elementary School are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Flowers or donations will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to the Garden Lakes Elementary School, 2903 Garden Lakes Blvd., Rome Georgia, 30165 in memory of Mrs. Sherri Ann Purdy Nix.
