Travis Reynolds Green

Travis Reynolds Green, age 71, of #15 Westdale Avenue, SW, West Rome passed away Monday afternoon, January 31, 2011, at the residence.

A native of Rome and Floyd County Mr. Green was born on November 10, 1939, the son of the late Ernest T. and Mary Lou Brock Green. His two heroes in life were Sis. Thelma Sharp, who brought him to the Lord when he was 12 years old, and Pastor Harold Jones, who continued Sis. Sharp's work and helped him go to his Lord. Travis' little special hero was Dasey Maddox, who passed away in January 2005 at the age of 4, and his niece, Rosa Payne, for her daily help and support.

Travis was a 20 year Navy veteran, entering service on January 4, 1957, until February 17, 1976, where he was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross, RVN Campaign Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and RVN Civil Action Medal. He served in Vietnam from February 1968 until March 1969, and he truly loved and served his country. Travis was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed many different activities through his lifetime. Travis said he will miss his wife, children, grandchildren and trees. And we will miss him.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Kathy) Green whom he married on December 15, 1973; sons, Gary Green of Rome, Ernie Green of Dacula, GA, two daughters, Debra Dillard and Donna Barton, both of Rome; six grandchildren, Sarah Green, Logan Green, Abigail Green, Caleb Green, Gary Barton and Luke Dillard. Also surviving are two brothers, Tommy Green and Otis Green, and a sister, Mary Ann Jacks. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Mary Lou Green and a brother, Richard Green.

Funeral services for Mr. Green will be held on Friday morning, February 4th, 2011 at 11:00 o'clock in the North Rome Church of God with Pastor Harold Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with full military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Mr. Green will lie-in-state on Friday morning from 10 until 11 o'clock at the church.

Mr. Green will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 5:00 o'clock until 7:00 o'clock. At other hours they may be contacted at the residence.

Honorary pallbearers will include Alfred Bohannon, Benny Bohannon, Grady Sharp, Lindsey Maddox, Matt Maddox, Trampus Royer and Anne Block.
