Vernon David Shelton

Vernon David Shelton, age 79, of the Bells Ferry Road, NE, Rome, died early Thursday morning, April 1st, 2010 at a local hospital.
A native of Wolf Mountain, North Carolina, Mr. Shelton was born on November 3rd, 1930, the son of the late John Oscar and Mary Etta Owens Shelton. He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement in 1994, Mr. Shelton served as a supervisor with Pharr Yarns of Rome. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Shelton and by a sister, Cleo Shelton.
Survivors include his wife, Delma Gean Brown Shelton, to whom he was married on April 9th, 1951; 3 sons, Verneic Shelton, Stanley Shelton and Roger Shelton all of Rome; 2 daughters, Lavern Shelton and Carolyn Shelton both of Rome; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren along with 2 brothers, Stanford Shelton and Buddy Shelton both of North Carolina; 5 sisters, Christine Brady, Loretha Schuler, Doris Jones, Debra Walls all of North Carolina and Nancy Owens of Washington State. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Vernon David Shelton will be held on Monday afternoon, April 5th, 2010 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jody Brock officiating. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Mr. Shelton will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
