Mr. Walter Delay "Buddy" Braden, age 78, of Shannon, GA, passed away at his residence on Tuesday evening, October 17, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Floyd County, Buddy was born on September 4, 1939, a son of the late Buford Delay Braden and Lorena Morrison Braden. Prior to retirement, he was a homebuilder. Buddy was a member of the Shannon Masonic Lodge # 100 where he was named Mason of The Year in 1976. He was also a member of the Rome Shrine Club, serving as President in 1980, and was instrumental in acquiring and building the Rome Shrine clubhouse. Buddy was President of the Yaarab Temple Red Devil Clowns in 1989, and was also a member and president of the Rome Red Devils Clown Unit. He was inducted into the Yaarab Temple Clown Hall of Fame. He enjoyed dealing with antiques, loved riding on his tractor and raising cattle. For many years Buddy was a faithful member First Baptist Church of Shannon where he served as a deacon and on various committees. In his later years he was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Plainville. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Melvin Braden, a sister, Devorah Braden Coker; a nephew, John Coker, and a close friend, Ronnie Miller.
Buddy is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Shirley Fox Braden, who he married on August 8, 1958; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dr. Ralph Jenkins; one granddaughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Billy Carver; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol Lynn and Herman Bradshaw, Jr.
Funeral services to honor Buddys life will be held on Friday afternoon, October 20, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph W. Jenkins and Pastor Billy Carver officiating. Interment will follow in the Salmon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home of Friday by 3:00 p.m. and include Mike Miller, Steve Roberson, Jr., Mark Braden, Charles Braden, Jason Bradshaw, Hoyt Coker, Jr., Tift Magruder and Jack Fuller
