Weldon Touchstone

Weldon Touchstone, age 95, of #2451 Everett Springs Road, Armuchee, Georgia passed away Saturday night, October 26, 2013 at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law.

A native of the Floyd Springs Community, Armuchee, Georgia, Mr. Touchstone was born on June 16, 1918, the son of the late Fay and Pearl Barton Touchstone. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County moving to the Everett Springs Community in 1925 and was a 1936 graduate of Everett Springs High School. Mr. Touchstone was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy from 1939 until 1945. He was a farmer, a school bus driver and a barber. He and his brothers owned and operated Touchstone Brothers Store. Mr. Touchstone was a 66 year member of the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 F&AM serving as Master in 1967 and later as secretary for over 20 years. Mr. Touchstone was also a member of the Etowah Chapter #30 Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Touchstone was a longtime member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-granddaughter, Rita Coleman. Mr. Touchstone was married on September 20, 1947 to Ossie Nell Cloud Touchstone who preceded him in death on July 6, 2006.

Survivors include a daughter, Lila Touchstone; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Touchstone and Roger Touchstone; a grandson, Ben Touchstone; great-grandchildren, Steven Coleman and Rachel Coleman; a sister, Marybeth Bridges; 2 brothers, Houston and his wife, Hazel Touchstone and Howard and his wife, Betty Touchstone. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Weldon Touchstone will be held on Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013 at 11 o'clock at the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Dr. Wayne Hopper, Dr. Dale McConkey and the Reverend Bryan Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military honors and the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 conducting Masonic graveside rites.

Mr. Touchstone will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 5 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of the son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Touchstone, 2503 Everett Springs Road, Armuchee.

Members of the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge # 167 F&AM will serve as active and honorary pallbearers. Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 F&AM will have a called communication at 9:30 am on Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013.
