William Jesse Evans, Jr

William J. "Bill" Evans, Jr. age 87, of #661 Compton Road, SE, Silver Creek, died Saturday evening, September 22nd, 2007, at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Evans was born on July 15th, 1920, the son of the late William Jesse Evans, Sr. and the late Donie Teague Evans. He attended Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church and New Hope Baptist Church at Rosedale. Mr. Evans was a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Army where he served for 21 years during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Among his many military awards were 2 Purple Hearts, and a Bronze Star. For a period of time Mr. Evans was associated with Battey Hospital of Rome and was retired from Floyd County. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Evans and his brothers and sisters. Mr. Evans was married in 1950 to Ava Lee King Evans who preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Sonny Miller of Silver Creek; 2 granddaughters, Rhonda Lee Satterfield and Kimberlee Diane Miller, 1 great-grandson, Melvin Edward Satterfield, III, 1 sister, Lottie Reece of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for William J. "Bill" Evans, Jr.will be held on Wednesday afternoon, September 26th, 2007 at 3 o'clock from the graveside of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Hartwell Nolan and his nephew, Charles L. Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites. For those attending the funeral service for Mr. Evans please meet at the graveside on Wednesday afternoon by 2:45 p.m.
Mr. Evans will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 7 until 9 o'clock.
