William Louis Red Hibberts, Sr

William L. "Red" Hibberts, Sr., age 79, of 302 Superba Avenue, Rome died Thursday afternoon, April 23rd, 2009 at a local hospital.
A native of Bartow County, Georgia, Mr. Hibberts was born on July 6th, 1929, the son of the late John and Bertha Jones Hibberts. He had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Hibberts was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army where he was awarded the Korean Service Metal, the National Defense Metal and the Purple Heart. Mr. Hibberts was a member of the Oostanaula Masonic Lodge #113 F&AM, The Royal Arch Mason and the Rome Shrine Club where he served in the Rome Motor Corp. Mr. Hibberts was the retired owner and operator of Hibberts Paint and Body Shop of Rome. Mr. Hibberts was preceded in death by 2 great-grandchildren, Dakota Hibberts and Jeremy Hibberts, Jr.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cookie and James Shelly of Rome; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, William Hibberts, Jr. and his wife, Jo of Rome, John Hibberts and his wife, Vickie of Rome and Marvin Hibberts and his wife, Kathy of Rome. 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday morning, April 27th, 2009, at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Lamar Clark officiating. Interment for the family only will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends on Monday morning from 10 until 11 o'clock at the funeral home.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Jerry Rayburn, Ronnie McScott, Mike Burkhalter, Buster Goss, Bob Williams and David Fowler.
