Willie Mitchell Owens, age 92, of Rome passed away early Wednesday morning, October 24th, 2012 at a Rome hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, Alabama, Mrs. Owens was born on May 29th, 1920, the daughter of the late James McDonald Hanson and the late Sarah Morris Hanson. Mrs. Owens had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and was a member of the East Rome Baptist Church where she was a member of the King's Daughters Sunday School Class. Mrs. Owens was a seamstress and had been associated with Esserman's of Rome and H. Richards Company of Rome. Mrs. Owens was married to Clayton Clyde Owens who preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Mitchell Collier and her husband, Sam of Silver Creek; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Mitchell and his wife, Penny of Rome; 3 grandchildren, Josh and Jamie Mitchell and Christina Rayburn. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Owens will be held on Friday afternoon, October 26th, 2012 at 3 o'clock at the East Rome Baptist Church with the Reverend Ken Hinkley, the Reverend Mike Southerland and Reverend David Fincher officiating.Iinterment will follow in the family lot of Floyd Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Owens will lie-in-state at the church on Friday from 2 until 3 o'clock.

Mrs. Owens will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Sam Collier at 1340 Old Rockmart Road, Silver Creek.
The following will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church this (Friday) afternoon by 2:30p.m., Jackie Sharpe, Willis Sharpe, George Hanson, Alton Dudley, Jim Brown and Tracy Gowens.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the East Rome Baptist Church, 601 Cedar Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30161.
