Winford Freeman Wilson

Winford F. Wilson, age 73, of #1378 Little Texas Valley Road, NW, Rome, passed away Monday night, March 23rd, 2009 at the residence.
A native of DeKalb County, Alabama, Mr. Wilson was born on July 1st, 1935, the son of the late James A. and Janie Turner Wilson. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Little Flock Baptist Church and prior to his retirement, Mr. Wilson was an insurance agent for many years. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by 1 sister and 2 brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Trapp Wilson to whom he was married on March 13th, 1957, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Allen Mathis of Rome and Kay and Jimmy Buffington of Rome; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Darvis Wilson of Knoxville, Tenn. and Donnie and Kim Wilson of Rome; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren also survive as do a sister, Faye Hobgood of Calhoun, Ga. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Wilson will be held this (Thursday) afternoon, March 26th, 2009 at 3 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Bohannon and the Rev. Thomas Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wilson will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family received friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
The following will serve as pallbearers, Chris and Adam Buffington, Eric, Mike and Jimmy Wilson and Shawn Elmore.
