Alton John A.J Rountree

Alton John (A.J.) Rountree, age 77, of Armuchee, GA., died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Winthrop Health and Rehabilitation following a sudden illness.

A.J. was born in Floyd County on July 30, 1936 to the late W.H. Rountree and Alba Hawkins Rountree. He enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to country music. He retired from General Electric. He is a veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Fighting Lady and was very proud of his service to his country.
He was survived by 6 children, Karen (Joel) Smith of Cedartown, GA., Sherry Rogers of Rome, GA., David Rountree of Rome, GA., David (Casey) Sharpe of Rome, GA., Toni (Kyle) Standridge of Canton, GA., and Johnette (Mike) Ford of Wellington, AL., sisters, Betty (Fred) Rogers of Armuchee, GA., Norma Bell, formerly of White, GA. He has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Linden Buck Rountree and a sister, Vera (Buster) Lynch of Armuchee.
Visitation - Wednesday, February 19 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fred Talleys Parkview Chapel, 2516 New Calhoun Highway NE, Rome, GA. Also from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday 20, 2014. Memorial Service - Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Fred Talleys Parkview Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
