Amy Michelle Waits

Amy Michelle Waits, age 46, of Summerville, GA, passed away on July 22, 2025, in Summerville, Georgia. Amy was born on March 27, 1979, in Rome, Georgia, She was a proud graduate of Coosa High School, Amy went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Reinhardt University and later attained a Master's degree in Education from Jacksonville State University. Throughout her academic journey, she was dedicated to learning and consistently stood out as an honor student.

Amy had a passion for teaching and cherished her time working with children, imparting not only knowledge but love and care for them. Her generosity extended beyond the classroom; she was deeply committed to assisting the homeless and those less fortunate, reflecting her big heart and thoughtful nature. Her family-oriented spirit was evident in all aspects of her life, as she placed great value on her relationships with her loved ones.

An accomplished athlete, Amy lettered in several sports during high school and continued her athletic pursuits as a pitcher for the Reinhardt college softball team. She also played on the basketball team, showcasing her enthusiasm for sports and competition. Beyond her academic and athletic achievements, Amy had a zest for adventure that took her to various places, including her time spent living in Las Vegas, where she worked in several casinos.

Amy is survived by her loving mother, Lynda Thompson Waits of Rome, Georgia; her sister, Abby Green of Rome, Georgia; her niece, Claire Green; her nephew, Sam Green; her aunts, Glenda Couey of Rome, Georgia, and Sandra (Ken) Thornton of Cartersville, Georgia; and her cousins, Karen (Tim) Poteet and David (Ann) Thornton. She was preceded in death by her father, Thurman Donald Waits.

Funeral services for Amy Michelle Waits will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 23, 2025 at 3:30 PM in the Salmon Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Hearne officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 3:20 PM. Allen Couey, Tim Couey, Don Lanham, David Thornton, Nathan Green and Sam Green will serve as pallbearers.
