Mrs. Annie Dale Ray Winkle age 88, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Mrs. Winkle was born in Adairsville, GA, on October 21, 1935, the daughter of the late Richard B. “R.B.” Ray and Thelma Sutton Ray. She was a member of Northwood Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Winkle worked at Galey and Lord for fifteen years. She enjoyed gardening, watching the birds, flowers, crocheting, and was an avid reader.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Winkle was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Robert Wicker “Dub” Winkle, Sr., to whom she was married on February 23, 1954; two sons, Jeffery Winkle and John Winkle; two brothers, Harry David Ray and James Henry “Jimmy” Ray; a sister, Mary Ray Williams; and her beloved dogs, Candy, Tenzie, and Baby.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Wicker Winkle, Jr. (Sandy), James Winkle, and Jerome Winkle, Sr. (Mary Lou); daughter-in-law, Kathy Winkle; ten grandchildren, Angel Yarbrough (Jonathan), Jerome Winkle, II (Erin), Crystal Hines (Paul), Amy Winkle, Melissa Crowe (Dale), Stephanie Winkle-Miller (Barry), Becky Ramey (Erik), Robert Wicker “Bert” Winkle, III (Yun Lee Lewis), Amos Winkle, and Alicia Davila (Duke); seventeen great-grandchildren, Adriana Smith (Jacob), Ali Miller, Eli Hines, Valerie Crowe, Chloe Crowe, Noah Hines, Leah Yarbrough, Echo Yarbrough, Liam Ely, Quinn Ely, Emma Ramey, Triston Ramey, Madison Ramey, Kendall Ramey, Benjamin Winkle, Jack Winkle, and Luke Winkle; three great-great-grandsons, Oliver Smith, Henry Smith, and Colton Ramey; a great-great-granddaughter on the way; a sister, Jean Asche; and Jackie Dotson, to whom she affectionately referred to as son.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 P.M., Salmon Funeral Home with Cary Hall officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, 280 Carpenter Rd NE, Calhoun, GA.
Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Saturday from noon until the service hour at Salmon Funeral Home.
