Barbara Ann Reid Davis

Barbara Ann Davis, age 89, of Rome Georgia, passed away at Riverwood Assisted Living on July 29, 2019.

Mrs. Davis was born on January 18, 1930, daughter of the late Vandiver Lewis Reid and the late Margaret Coalson Reid. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Lewis Davis and by her husband of 63 years, Marvin Eugene Davis, whom she married February 23, 1947. A sister, Frances Reid Cochran, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Davis grew up in Rome Georgia leaving the area in 1953 to follow her U.S. Marine Corps husband for 15 years residing in several states and Morocco, Africa, where she was active in locating new churches for her family. She was active in many phases of Baptist church work with a decided interest in Missions and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She was active in Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts. She retired from Floyd Superior Court in 1994 after 26 years of service . In 1974 she was awarded the Liberty Bell Award for helpfulness to young attorneys in the Rome Judicial Circuit.

Mrs. Davis is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and John Richard of Rome, two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Karin Davis of Bartlette, TN, and Steven and Cissy Davis of Rome; seven grandchildren, Michelle Shanahan, Joshua (Danielle) Swinford, Elizabeth (Josh) Winters, Jonathan (Tonya) Swinford, Jason Swinford, Jenny Swinford, Michael Davis and Maggie (Seth) Holley; ten great-grandchildren. The joy of her life was to see her children and grandchildren come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. A host of nieces and nephews, along with special friends, Martha Davis and Lisa Hayes, also survives.

A celebration of Life For Mrs. Davis will be held on Thursday morning, August 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Levan officiating. Mrs. Davis will be buried along with her husband at a later date in the family lot of East View Cemetery.

the family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Legacy of Faith, 314 Burnett Ferry Road, Rome, GA 30165.
