Ms. Bessie Mae Thacker, age 85 of Rome, GA passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family. She was affectionately known as Mae. Mae was born on December 1, 1940, in Rome, Georgia, she lived a vibrant life, characterized by her devotion to family and a strong sense of southern charm.

Mae worked as a baker at the Coosa Bakery. Her commitment to her career was matched only by her commitment to her family, whom she cherished deeply. She was known as a southern belle, always taking pride in her appearance, often seen dressed impeccably and enhancing her natural beauty with well-maintained red hair and time spent in the tanning bed.

Mae's lively personality and love for life were evident in her passion for joking and having fun, contributing to the joyful and warm atmosphere she fostered among her loved ones. She enjoyed traveling, with a special fondness for trips to the beach, allowing her to create lasting memories with her family.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her son, Ray Sears of Arkansas; her granddaughters, Meghan Henderson and her husband Nick of Rome, GA, Amanda Owens of Silver Creek, GA; as well as her great-grandchildren, Maycy and her husband Kobie Drew, Gage Owens, and Kason Henderson. Mae is also remembered fondly by her son-in-law, Michael Ferguson of Rome, GA; special nieces, Stacy Royston and her husband Jeff of Cave Spring, GA and Kathy Lumpkin and her husband Larry of Rome, GA. Mae’s companion, her cat Smokey, will also miss her dearly.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, James  Alfred Miles and Mable Adel Lemming Miles; her daughter, Cynthia Denise Ferguson, lovingly known as Cyndy; and several brothers and sisters. Her legacy of love, strength, and joy will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Funeral Services to honor and celebrate the life of Ms. Mae will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory. Following the funeral service, Ms. Mae will be laid to rest at Floyd Memory Gardens. Pastor Gary Diggs will be officiating the service. Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: Nick Henderson, Gage Owens, Kason Henderson, Jeff Royston, Little Ray James and Kobie Drew.

A visitation for Ms. Mae will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory.

Bessie Mae Thacker’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and family, qualities that will continue to resonate within her family and community.
