Betty Jean Poindexter

January 30, 1946 — June 20, 2010

Mrs. Betty "Jean" Ward Poindexter, age 64, of #44 Freeman Ferry Road, Rome, a 13 year cancer survivor, died Sunday morning, June 20, 2010, in a local hospital.
A native of Cedartown, GA. Mrs. Poindexter was born on January 30, 1946, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret Alice Brock Ward. She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and was a 1965 graduate of Cedartown High School. For a number of years Mrs. Poindexter was associated with South 107 as a sales associate. She was a long time member of the North Rome Church of God. Mrs. Poindexter enjoyed cooking and being with her family.
Mrs. Poindexter is survived by her husband, Don Poindexter, to whom she was married on August 2, 1985; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brig and Richard Kerce, Jannine Wheeler, and Bridgett and Bill Smith, all of Rome; one son, James Peek of Cedartown; six grandchildren, Tiffany (G.W.) Horton, Emily Wheeler, Taylor Kerce, Clara Lyn Kerce, Kaleigh Smith and Hayden Smith; one great-grandson, Jacob Horton; her parents, Ernest and Margaret Ward of Rome; a sister, Faye Ward Clay of Cedartown; a brother, Kenneth (Angie) Ward also of Cedartown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Poindexter will be held this (Tuesday) afternoon at 2 o'clock in the North Rome Church of God with Pastor Harold Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Poindexter will lie-in-state in the North Rome Church of God where the family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
