Bill Lamar Dempsey, age 94 of Rome, GA entered his heavenly home on Monday morning, June 30, 2025.
Bill was born on March 18, 1931, in Rome, Georgia. Mr. Dempsey graduated from Model High School in 1948 and served in the United States Army. He was a Weapons Instructor and proudly served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was co-owner of Dempsey Dairies (1987), Dempsey Brother's Real Estate, Dempsey Brother's Insurance and President of Rome Truck Parts.
He was a Board Member of the Georgia Dairy Association and a Charter Member of the Martha Berry Society. Mr. Dempsey was a life long member of Second Avenue Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, He married his high school Sweetheart, Myra, on September 9, 1956. They were blessed with 65 years together. He will always be remembered for his life long kindness, humbleness, love of the Lord and his wisdom.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Zona Tolbert Dempsey and Bert Jefferson Dempsey, Sr.; sisters, Emma Sue Dempsey, Virginia Ann Treadaway; brothers, Jack, Robert, Charlie, Bert Jr, Jerry Sr. and a grandson, Gregory Dempsey. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Peek (Carlton) of Rome; son, Michael (Shana) Dempsey of Rome; five grandchildren, Patrick (Sarah) Peek of Rome, Katie (Matt) Lewis of Rome, Ben (Lindsey Fredieu) Peek of Atlanta, Megan (Michael) Quaye-Sowah of Austell and Josh (Sarah Beth) Dempsey of Macon; four great-grand children, Olivia Peek, Owen Peek, Anna Ruth Peek and Davis Lewis of Rome as well as another on the way; sister, Faye Barnett of Rome.
Funeral services for Mr. Dempsey will be Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Jacob Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Dempsey’s family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
Pallbearers will include Patrick Peek, Ben Peek, Joshua Dempsey, Matt Lewis, Michael Quaye-Sowah and Barry Dempsey.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Second Avenue Baptist Church; 823 E 2nd Ave., Rome, GA 30161 | 706-232-3663 in honor of Mr. Dempsey. The family is deeply grateful for Mr. Dempsey's caregivers: Leisa Cruz, Liza Johnson, Robin Clark, Bless Lanham, Emily Westmoreland and Lynae Pledger. Also, the wonderful care provided by Heyman Hospice.
