Bro. Billy Joe Hawkins, age 87, of Rome, GA passed away peacefully at his home, on February 28, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on November 30, 1938, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith and work.
Brother Billy enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring at Quality Logistics as a Warehouse Supervisor after many years of devoted service. His professional accomplishments were complemented by a joyful spirit that resonated with those around him. He was a cherished member of Friendship Baptist Church, where his Christian faith flourished and enriched the lives of many and he was truly a beloved member of the community. A man of varied interests, Billy found joy in jogging and working out, activities that allowed him to maintain an active lifestyle and connect with the community around him.
He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, Fran Hawkins, whom he adored. They shared their lives with their daughter, Dena Jones, and her husband, JonPol Jones, all residing in Rome, GA. Also mourning his loss are his brother, Lewis Hawkins Jr., and his wife Kacee; his sister, Kathie Bouler, and her husband Howard; along with grandchildren Brennan Jones and his wife Brianna, and Brayden Jones. He took great pride in being a great-grandfather to Brynna Jones and Bennett Jones. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and special friends who truly loved him. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Leroy Hawkins and Opal Irene Roebuck Hawkins, and by his sisters, Janice Poole and Betty Herring. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The celebration of Bro. Billy's life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Pastor Justin Silver officiating. Bro. Billy will be laid to rest at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral service. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Brennan Jones, Brayden Jones, Jeff Rosson, Rick Salmon, Ed Haygood and Clint Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Friendship Baptist Church.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM until the service begins at 3:00 PM.
