Brenda Wood Henderson

Salmon Funeral Home would like to announce on behalf of the family, the passing of Mrs. Brenda Jann Wood Henderson. 

Mrs. Brenda Jann Wood Henderson, age 73, of Buchanan, GA, passed away Wednesday evening, January 25, 2023, in a Rome, GA, hospital.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Cedartown, GA, on February 17, 1949, daughter of the late Carlton F. Wood and Dorothy Faye Barrett Wood. She had lived her childhood in Haralson County and most of her adult life in Rome before moving back to Haralson County in 2000. Brenda graduated from West Haralson High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Shorter College and Masters and Specialists Degrees from Berry College. She taught school in Floyd County for most of her career and retired from Haralson County School System. After retirement, Brenda was a Para-Pro in Polk County School System at Cedartown Middle School. She was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ in Rome and loved to read and travel. Brenda also devoted time to crocheting scarves and hats for those in need.

In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by a grandson, T.J. Overby.

Brenda is survived by her husband Joe Henderson, Jr., whom she married August 30, 1968; two daughters, Jodi (Paul) Sonderman of Newnan, GA, and Paige Henderson of Buchanan; six grandchildren, Anna (Jon) Smoot, Mags Sonderman, Marin Sonderman, Aaron Overby, Skye (Keely) Overby, and Joey Overby; one great-granddaughter, Nova Overby; brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Janice Henderson, Gordon and Dawn Henderson, Glenn and Yvonne Henderson, and Wynn Henderson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Brenda will be Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Tallapoosa with Minister Michael Farris officiating. Anna Smoot and Tommy Patterson will deliver eulogies. Interment will follow in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Haralson County.

Brenda’s family will receive friends at Oak Hill Church Of Christ in Rome Saturday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. On Sunday, the family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Tallapoosa from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include Aaron Overby, Joey Overby, Mags Sonderman, Wynn Henderson, Johnny Henderson, Glenn Henderson, Gordon Henderson, and Jon Smoot.
